Read more about Roganstowns Sustainable Energy achievements.

The annual Sustainable Energy Awards are intended to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in energy management in the industrial, commercial and public sectors. The awards will focus on individuals, groups and organisations who demonstrate a commitment to include energy management as part of their overall management structure and provide an opportunity for organisations, regardless of size, to gain public recognition for their achievements in reducing energy use and emissions. This is the fifth year of this national initiative which is the only awards scheme recognising best practice in energy performance, management and design.

Roganstown has been judged a finalist in the Renewable Energy Project category for its Wood Chip Boiler Project.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Dublin on Thursday 20th November ‘08.

The wood chip boiler at Roganstown Golf and County Club was switched on in March 2007, as the hotel became the first in North County Dublin to install this renewable ‘green’ technology. Compared with the existing conventional fuel system, the woodchip boiler will save more than 550 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum.

CO2 Savings

Clearpower estimate that Roganstown will use approx 600 tonnes of woodchip per annum = 2.4M KWh of woodchip fuel
This will displace 2.4M KWh of LPG fuel
LPG emits 229.28 grams/CO2 per KWh burnt (details for each fuel on SEI website) Therefore there will be a saving of 551 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum.
If the Irish Government is fined 20 euro per tonne that we are over (Kyoto obligations) this equates to an 11K saving to the exchequer per annum.

Roganstown Hotel Golf and Country Club were celebrating this week having received the Customer Service Award for the Tourism and Hospitality Sector at the Annual Fingal Dublin Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

The award, sponsored by the Dublin Airport Authority was presented at the Chamber Gala event in the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday night last. The awards are held each year in recognition of businesses excellence in the Fingal region with special acknowledgment for the efforts businesses place in promoting excellence in the quality of their products, services and customer care. The hotel was also shortlisted in two other categories for Best Eating Establishment and Best Licensed Premises.

The Swords venue was graded by a mystery shopper, at a time unknown to them, on all aspects of customer service including first impressions, telephone manner, acknowledgement and greeting, customer care, product knowledge, services, general interaction with the customer and meeting and exceeding customer expectation. Roganstown has placed emphasis on exceptional quality of service.

The 300 acres family owned and run estate prides itself on creating a customer focused environment with luxurious accommodation, an award winning restaurant, 18 hole golf course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr. and first class leisure and spa facilities.

“We are delighted to win this prestigious award. We are even more pleased that our high standard of customer service and customer care has been put to the test by the adjudicators and that it met their exacting standards. This level of service extends to our award winning restaurant, Spa facilities and 18 hole championship golf course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr.,” said Ian McGuinness Managing Director.

“We are proud to say that guests at Roganstown can experience this high level of customer service all year round and we are confident that anyone enjoying the hotel facilities or playing its golf course will also give us the same endorsement,” he added

The biggest annual social event at Roganstown Hotel, Golf and Country Club, the Christy O'Connor Jnr. Charity Pro-Am and special auction was held this week at the Swords venue.

The biggest annual social event at Roganstown Hotel, Golf and Country Club, the Christy O’Connor Jnr. Charity Pro-Am and special auction was held this week at the Swords venue.

The event, which is now in its third year, raises funds for Crumlin Children’s Hospital and Irish Autism Action. The event is organised by Roganstown in conjunction with Christy O’Connor Jnr. and McInerney Homes.

The two charities have benefited considerably since its inception with this year’s event raising an impressive €70,000, bringing the total amount raised over the past three years to €250,000.

The hugely popular event is firmly established on the golfing calendar. This year’s competition attracted 44 corporate teams including local businesses and golf members, who competed for the honours on the championship golf course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr.

Each team of 3 was hooked up with an Irish PGA golf professional who competed as part of the team and also for a prize fund and PGA irish region ranking points.

Guests also enjoyed a Gala dinner where a special charity auction was the main focus of everyone’s attention. Auction Lots included a driver signed by Darren Clarke, a golfing day with Paul McGinley and two tickets to the 2009 FA Cup Final. Glen Robinson, Professional Irish Golfer emerged as the winner of the tightly contested Pro-Am, seeing off competition from former PGA Irish Champion David Mortimer. Robinson has an outstanding record on the golf course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr. having won the Southern PGA Championship at the same venue last year.

Commenting on the success of this year’s event, Ian McGuinness Managing Director of Roganstown Hotel, Golf and Country Club said: “This year’s Pro-Am has been our most successful to date. The event gets bigger with each passing year and the generosity and support of local businesses and our club members has helped us to raise a staggering €250,000 in just three years for two very deserving charities”. “Roganstown Hotel, Golf and Country Club is well known for its facilities which includes 300 acres country estate, luxurious accommodation, an award winning restaurant, 18 hole golf course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr. and first class leisure and spa facilities. We are delighted to also establish a reputation as one of the biggest fundraisers for charity in the area and we look forward to raising even larger amounts for charity in the years to come,” he added.

Eleven year old Caolán Kennedy, from Swords is a member of Roganstown Golf Club and has been playing golf for three years. He is in 5th class in St. Colmcilles BNS and in the last three years, natural talent, determination, and the tutelage of PGA professional Geoff Loughrey have seen him take his handicap down to 11. In the last two weeks alone he lost two shots. Caolán, a great all round sportsman, has played Gaelic Football and Hurling for Fingallians in Swords since he was able to walk but in the last year has given up Hurling to concentrate on his golf swing.

He still plays Gaelic Football at under 13 level (two years above his age limit). It seems to run in the family as Caolan’s brother Ian is also a golfing prodigy, also playing for just three years and now with a handicap of seven and is currently captain of the Junior Club at Roganstown. The boys father Mick and mother Siobhan are very proud of their two sons and encourage them in their sporting endeavours.

Mick and Ian finished second in the all Ireland Father and Son Golf Tournament in 2006. Caolan at just 11 years old and weighing in at only four stone is the man of the moment though.
